SanDisk had earlier mentioned about their cheap-archival storage based on their new “3D memory’ a few months back, well the rumor has it that they are going ahead with the production of these chips. It would cost you $6 to buy a 1Gb card, that will be around 300- 400 of photos stored away nicely in the card for the next 100 years

AMD has gone live with Phenom. With it, we’ve got an entire new platform, codenamed “Spider.” The Spider PC platform combines AMD Phenom quad-core processors, ATI Radeon HD 3800 series graphics, and AMD 7-series chipsets with CrossFireX and AMD OverDrive software for what AMD calls the “Ultimate visual Experience.” That’s the hype. Early reviews, however, are pretty much “underwhelmed” by the launch. Oh, the HD 3800 cards are ok (for mid-range graphics) and the 7-series chipset “is in good shape.

The iPhone elite dev team says they’ve unlocked 1.1.2. Downloads are here on the Google code site. This is unconfirmed and untested as of right now, but if you just can’t wait to get your 1.1.2 iPhone unlocked, there you go. Someone ping us in the comments below and let us know if it works for real.

The team has basically figured out a way to downgrade 1.1.2 to 1.0.2 or 1.1.1 and unlock it. They haven’t actually unlocked the 1.1.2 iPhone, because it hasn’t been jailbroken yet, but they have unlocked the new modem firmware.

HyperSpace is a layer of BIOS embedded software that makes it possible to instantly run applications independently of Windows.  These “instant-on” applications will be truncated versions of open-source programs and that are available before, during, and after Windows boot up and shut down.

Phoenix is targeting the portable PC market and seeks to capitalize on what critics say are the major faults of Windows: its size, speed, inefficiency, and poor security.  HyperSpace allows users to bypass the boot up process and instantly access their favorite applications, such as internet browsers, media players, word processors, and the like. It also promises to conserve battery life since Vista is notoriously power intensive. 

HyperSpace will add value to PC vendors by allowing them to remotely trouble shoot and restore customers’ computers.  It also promises to deliver a layer of embedded security that is stronger than the current standards. 

The product is based on a form of virtualization, called a hypervisor, that allows a machine to simultaneously run multiple operating systems.   Phoenix calls this HyperCore, and it is essentially a paired down hypervisor that uses a Zoned Virtual Machine Monitor (ZVMM) to run their core applications along side Windows.  Since HyperSpace is written into the BIOS firmware, its code is essentially secret and more secure argues Woody Hobbs, Phoenix CEO.

Solid-state disks (SSDs) are seen as the next plateau for mobile computing. Companies like Alienware and Dell offer the high-performance drives in their notebook computers.

Samsung first starting making waves in the SSD arena with its 32GB drive in March 2006 and followed up with a faster 64GB unit in June of 2007. Today, Samsung is once again stepping up its efforts in the SSD arena.

The company has announced a new generation of 64GB SSDs which use 8Gb, 50nm single-level-cell (SLC) flash memory chips. The drives, which will be available in 1.8″ and 2.5″ form-factors, also feature a new SATA II interface for faster performance.

The faster chips and SATA II interface gives the new SSDs sequential write speeds of 100MB/sec and sequential reads of 120MB/sec. These numbers completely obliterate the previous Samsung 64GB offering which is rated at 45MB/sec write and 65MB/sec read. Samsung’s first-generation 32GB SSD is rated for 30MB/sec writes and 53MB/sec reads.

MadCatz may be best known for its video game accessories, but it looks like the company isn’t about to let the iPhone bandwagon pass it by, with it now announcing that it’ll soon release an iPhone-compatible version of its AirDrives “interactive headphones.” Helping the phones earn that distinction, it seems, is their use of MadCatz’s trademark InAir technology, which lets wearers still hear what’s going on around them. New to the iPhone-friendly model (that’s the non-iPhone version up above) is an integrated microphone, and the always-useful one-touch music-to-phone capability.

Of course, there’s nothing to stop you from using them with something other than an iPhone, although if you don’t need the headset functionality, you may want to opt for the standard $100 models, as these’ll drive a slight premium of $120 when they’re released early next year.

IBM announced today a new process that it invented to take discarded silicon wafers and reclaim them specifically to be sold to the solar cell manufacturing industry. The new reclamation process involves taking etched silicon wafers that are discarded and using a polish wheel/compound along with de-ionized water to remove all of the intellectual property from the surface of the wafer. The process does not damage the silicon underneath.

This new process is revolutionary won IBM the “2007 Most Valuable Pollution Prevention Award” from The National Pollution Prevention Program. IBM says that worldwide about 250,000 silicon wafers are started each day and that up to 3.3 percent of these wafers end up being discarded amounting to about three million discarded wafers each year.

In addition to merely saving the material and time used in the manufacturing of the reclaimed silicon wafers, IBM says that it sees an overall 90 percent energy savings because repurposing the scrap means IBM doesn’t have to manufacture as many new wafers to meet demands of its production process.

It looks like Samsung’s snazzy YP-P2 just became even more attractive. Apparently, the P2 will be hit with an update this December that enables a Bluetooth connection to one’s mobile phone, BT file exchanges and the addition of an e-dictionary . In late January of 2008, you can expect an upgraded Touch UI along with FM recording / playback.

Finally its looking like a device thats worth buying :)

Intel plans to develop new CPU architecture for ultra-low cost laptop computers because none of the current Intel processors fit the specifications for the one laptop per child notebook program (OLPC), so Intel is designing a new processor specifically for the ultra-low cost laptop category where the AMD 433MHz Geode LX-700 reigns king.

Intel said that they needed a new architecture instead of an establised old architecture besides having Celeron M series becauase of the small size, low cost and low power consumption required by the OLPC laptop .

Looks like Intel is going after AMD in this market segment too, there is nothin better than having a nice competition between AMD and Intel
